D'Souza, Kiran

Biography

Professor D'Souza is the director of the Nonlinear Dynamics and Vibration Lab, which studies fundamental nonlinear dynamics modelling & analysis and reduced order modelling. He also serves as the Associate Director of The Ohio State University's Gas Turbine Laboratory (GTL). The GTL seeks to combine the best aspects of academic and industrial research to advance the state-of-the-art in gas turbine design using computational and experimental techniques.

Professor D'Souza graduated with a BS (2003), MS (2004), and PhD (2009) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan. He stayed on as a post doc and Research Scientist at the University of Michigan Vibration and Acoustics Lab until 2014 when he became an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department at The Ohio State University.

His research focus is in the general field of structural dynamics with an emphasis on turbomachinery modeling and analysis, modeling of complex nonlinear systems, system identification and structural health monitoring, nonlinear feedback control for enhanced sensitivity in detection and sensing, bifurcation forecasting, and, more recently, large-scale rotating turbomachinery experiments at design conditions. The two key research thrusts are (1) the analysis of complex high dimensional cyclic structures found in turbomachinery, and (2) the creation of techniques to efficiently model, analyze, and exploit nonlinearity.
