Expertise

My research seeks to gain insight into the mechanism of plastic deformation of light-weight tubular structures undergoing large shape distortion and sectional collapse due to radial indentation and axial deformation. Such an effort is useful in various industrial applications, for example in understanding the process mechanics during the fabrication of lightweight profiles used as structural parts in car bodies, or, in the assessment of local damage and residual strength of tubular members in off-shore platforms subjected to accidental loads.

I am also interested in developing pedagogical techniques to transform the teaching of undergraduate mechanics of materials, primarily by developing a laboratory-based, state-of-the-art curriculum that will involve the study of the foundational principles in solid mechanics via active experimentation using traditional and modern measurement techniques for strain and deformation.
